Support the Kids Just Want to Ride Act

Please support Representative Denny Rehberg (MT) who will be introduced "Kids Just Want To Ride Act to the House of Representatives. The Kids Just Want To Ride Act would be a legislative exemption for youth-model motorcycles and ATVs from the lead provisions included in the Consumer Product Safety Act of 2008 (lead Law). The act was presented last week and it needs everyones support. Please Contact your State Representative and urge them to support this Exemption.

MORE INFO: A consequence of the "Lead Law" Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA) caused the sale of small recreational vehicles (child Rides) to be banned as a result of the strict lead content standards. We understand and support the governments need to protect young children from dangerous lead products especially the high levels of lead in plastic toys, primarily imported toys. However, the plastics in a Motocross bike or ATV should not be held to the same strict standards because they inherently poss little if any risk to children. Although we do not believe the original intent of the law was meant to ban Mx bikes and atvs yet the CPSIA of 2008 did. We believe CPSIA of 2008 was intended for toys that children hold, put in their mouths. We believe it was meant for toys that when left aging in toy boxes where lead is released during the breakdown of the aging plastics it gathers in high concentration and becomes a true danger to children. The intent of this law was not to force youth to ride atvs, snow mobiles and mx bikes that are meant for adults. It was not meant to prevent shops from repairing and selling OHVs meant for youth riders.

Some kids do not want to play hockey, football or soccer. Some children and teens are drawn to MX riding and racing with the same passion a football player has for football. They should be permitted to have venues to experience and participate in this sport.
